Matt McBane People
Matt McBane is a multimedia composer and violinist whose work spans projected image and sound, minimalist electronic composition, and amplified/processed string quartet with live video; his pieces have been presented at The Whitney Museum of Art and Carnegie Hall. He composes interdisciplinary works including the half-hour Ghost in the Machine (with Lucy H.G.), leads the New York-based experimental band Build, and directs the Carlsbad Music Festival. He studied composition at USC Thornton with Donald Crockett, was an Associate Artist at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in 2007, appeared at festivals including Bang On A Can and Aspen, and has received grants from organizations including the Arts Ministry of New South Wales, the Norwegian Consulate, ASCAP, Meet the Composer, American Composer's Forum, and NAMM.

Matt Mikas People
Matt Mikas is a sound artist and sonic anthropologist working in microradio, nightclubs and museums; he uses turntables as historian and performer. He curated the sound program for Dave Hickey's Ultralounge at the University of South Florida Contemporary Art Museum (January 2000), produced Tune(In))) (2003), an installation of over sixty sound artists into six transmitters, and premiered Of The Bridge with Matt Bua and Tom Roe in Brooklyn! (2001) at Palm Beach Institute of Contemporary Art. His Interactive Audio Response Kit is a composition and listening tool on two LPs.
1987 Matt Schlanger Chronology
Matt Schlanger recorded Blue Mercury at the ETC in July 1986 after moving back to New York in the summer of 1985; he had spent the previous year in Owego building hardware for the Center and developing his own synths. He taught at the Center for Media Arts, parked his system in a Soho loft above Arnolds Turtle and later with Hank Linhart on North 13th in Greenpoint, where he collaborated with Hank, Terry Mohre and Laurie Needell and edited Before the Flood on a straight-cut system. Blue Mercury was first shown as a three-minute edit, later expanded to a 15-minute installation developed with Charlie Citron and screened at Monte Video in Amsterdam and in 1991 at the Thread Waxing space.
Matt Underwood People
Matt Underwood holds a BFA from the School of Art and Design at Alfred University; he works across print, video, sound, installation and performance. He collaborated with Richard Kostelanetz, creating a soundtrack for one of Kostelanetz's video poems; his videowork was included in the 2003 International Digital Arts Exhibition at Shangai University, and he has served as an instructor with the International Summer Workshop.

Matt Biederman is a San Francisco-based video performance artist who since 1996 has produced video projection installations and screened works exploring electronic image delivery, media saturation, data systems and the video signal as medium; he served as artist in residence at the Experimental Television Center. He presents live one-time video improvisations via software he writes and has performed at the Montreal International Jazz Festival and Betalounge. He co-founded BEEF, served as Director of Services at Artists' Television Lab, has assisted and consulted for other artists and institutions, and exhibited at the San Jose Museum of Art and various festivals.

Matthew Schlanger People
Matthew Schlanger exhibited in the 1987 Whitney Biennial and at PS1, The Kitchen and Monte Video; his work is in the collections of Monte Video, Donnell Media Center (New York Public Library) and The Kitchen. He taught video production and art at the School of Visual Arts (Film Department, MFA Computer Art) and lectured at SUNY, Rutgers, Ithaca College and AFI Los Angeles. He built synthesizers for the Experimental Television Center and Design Lab; since 1995 he leads Black Hammer Productions, producing interactive media and games including the GBA title I Spy Challenger.
1986 Matthew Schlanger Chronology
Matt Schlanger recounts the origin of the nickname Lumpy Banger from a sixties costume-party prank and describes Lumpy Banger as both a short tape and an installation/video object; an initial 1:04-minute cut was later re-edited to a 10-minute version used in the installation. The work combines video displayed on a monitor embedded in a wood post with a hammer and nails and invites viewer interaction; Schlanger states the piece references African fetish objects and contains no computer, laser disk, or sensors.
Maureen Nappi People
Maureen Nappi is an artist, theorist and curator known for work created with computers and advanced technologies; her practice addresses humanistic issues including spiritualism, homelessness, racial violence, feminism and the relationship of humanity and technology. She has written and lectured extensively and held teaching positions at the School of Visual Arts, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and New York University; from 1994 to 1999 she served on the Artists' Advisory Committee of the New York Foundation for the Arts advising Emerging Forms/Performance and the Computer Arts category she helped found. She is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Art and Art Professions at New York University, working on a dissertation on Aesthetics and Computer Arts.

Maureen Turim earned a BA (1973), MA (1975) and PhD (1978) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison; her studies included periods in France at L'Université d'Aix-Marseille (1971—72), L'…cole des Hautes …tudes and Paris III (1973—74). She taught at the State University of New York at Binghamton from 1977 until joining the UF faculty in 1991; she is author of Abstraction in Avant-Garde Films (Ann Arbor: UMI Research Press), Flashbacks in Film: Memory and History (New York: Routledge), and The Films of Oshima: Images of a Japanese Iconoclast (Berkeley: University of California Press). Turim has published over fifty essays in anthologies and journals on cinema and related fields, with several translated into French and German; she has also written catalogue essays for museum exhibitions.
