Maria Dumlao People

Maria Dumlao, born in Manila and based in Brooklyn, NY, received an MFA from Hunter College in 2003 and teaches at Hostos Community College of CUNY; she held two residencies at Experimental Television Center in Owego, NY. Her work has been exhibited and screened at Art in General and Momenta Art Gallery in NYC and at The Contemporary Museum in Hawaii, and internationally. As Brainstormers with Elaine Kaufmann, Danielle Mysliwiec and Anne Polashenski she published in Women's Studies Quarterly, Women & Environments, produced Puffin Foundation funded artists books and received an Official Selection at the 41st BAC Film and Video Festival.

Maria Marewski People

Maria Marewski (Founding Director in 1994 and Executive Director, Children's Media Project) is an award-winning filmmaker who has taught at University of Maryland, Hunter College and Vassar College; she has presented at conferences Grantmakers in the Arts, Coalition for Essential Schools and the National Media Education Conference and has curated since 1999 the Youth Media Program for The Hampton's International Film Festival. Maria Venuto People

Maria Venuto is a video artist; her work The Tourist examines isolation and alienation as experienced by a displaced German traveller and premiered on WNET/Channel 13's REEL New York before screening in the US and Europe. Mariam Ghani People

Mariam Ghani is a Brooklyn-based artist working in video, installation and new and tactical media; her work maps contrapuntal narratives in border zones between cultures. Her projects include net art commissions for Turbulence.org and artwurl, screenings and installations at international festivals and institutions including Eyebeam Atelier, texts in Sarai Reader 05 and the Journal of Aesthetics and Protest, a BA from NYU (2000) and an MFA from the School of Visual Arts (2002), residencies at LMCC and Eyebeam Atelier, and a 2007 Finishing Funds award from the Experimental Television Center.

Marianne Petit People

Marianne R. Petit is an Associate Arts Professor at New York University's Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) at New York University; at ITP she teaches digital media, animation and storytelling and oversees the assistive technology and social justice curriculum. She co-founded Greylock Arts, a non-commercial art space dedicated to interactive new media and emerging arts practice; her pop-up books, animation, video, comics and online projects have appeared in festivals and exhibitions nationally and internationally and have been featured in Wired Magazine, WGBY and the Independent Film Channel. Marie Losier People

Marie Losier (born France, 1972) is a New York–based filmmaker and curator who has produced numerous 16mm and video portraits of avant-garde artists and musicians including Mike and George Kuchar, Guy Maddin, Richard Foreman, Tony Conrad and Genesis P-Orridge; her films have screened at institutions and festivals such as Tate Modern, MoMA, the Whitney Biennial (2006) and the Berlin and Rotterdam film festivals. She has curated film programs at the French Institute Alliance Fran3aise since 2000 and has developed a feature on Genesis Breyer P-Orridge presented at Centre Pompidou and Cin9math8que Fran7aise in 2009.

Marie Nesthus People

Marie Nesthus is Director of the Donnell Media Center at the New York Public Library and holds a doctorate in Cinema Studies from New York University; she has worked on distribution and exhibition of avant-garde and documentary films with a focus on preservation and exhibition. Under her leadership the Donnell Media Center became an archive and study center for independent film while continuing to circulate videos and other audiovisual materials to the public. She has served on the Film Advisory Committee of the American Federation of Art and on the boards of the Manhattan Neighborhood Network, the American Film Festival and the St. Petersburg (Russia) Non-fiction Film Festival; in June 2002 she received the LEO award for lifetime achievement at the Flaherty Film Seminar.

Marilyn Rees People

Marilyn Ruth Ries (1937–2017) was an independent audio engineer and producer who graduated Cooper Union and Pratt and built studios in New York and Haralson County, Georgia. She recorded hundreds of children’s and adult audiobooks for Troll, Scholastic, Warner Audio and Bantam, worked for WNYC and Westdeutscher Rundfunk, and co-founded the Wise Women Enterprises label. She produced video-painting work using equipment such as the Paik-Abe colorizer, compiled lullabies for Touching Sound, A Living Lullaby (2012), and was partner and later spouse of Sorrel Hays (met 1985; domestic partnership 1989; married August 6, 2015).

Marina Zurkow People

Marina Zurkow is a multidisciplinary artist. In 2004 she completed the seven-channel multi-linear installation Nicking the Never, shown at The Kitchen and premiered at FACT in the U.K.; recent projects include Braingirl, the mapping application/installation PDPal (with Scott Paterson and Julian Bleecker) and the interactive persona Pussy Weevil. Her work has been exhibited at festivals and museums including Sundance, Rotterdam and Ars Electronica and broadcast on MTV and PBS; she was a 2003 Rockefeller New Media Fellow, received a 2007 Finishing Funds award, and teaches at Parsons and NYU.

Marisa Olson studied at Goldsmiths College, UC Santa Cruz (History of Consciousness) and UC Berkeley (Rhetoric and Film Studies); her work has been presented by museums and underground film festivals including the Whitney Museum and the New York and Chicago Underground Film Festivals. Marita Sturken People

Marita Sturken is Associate Professor at the Annenberg School for Communication, University of Southern California, and author of Tangled Memories (California, 1997), Thelma & Louise (British Film Institute, 2000), Practices of Looking (with Lisa Cartwright, Oxford, 2001), and co-editor of Technological Visions (Temple, 2004). She holds a PhD from the History of Consciousness program at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and has published in journals including Representations, Public Culture, History and Theory, and Afterimage. She has written extensively about video art and the emergence of video, including catalogues for the Museum of Modern Art and Electronic Arts Intermix, and co-curated with Robert Riley the exhibition Machine Media: Steina and Woody Vasulka at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in 1996.

Mark Coniglio People

Troika Ranch has performed across the United States and held creative residencies at institutions including HERE Arts Center, STEIM (Amsterdam) and a New York State DanceForce residency in Potsdam; it received support from multiple arts councils and foundations. Mark Coniglio, Troika Ranch artistic director and a native of Nebraska, worked five years as a producer for American Gramophone Records during which the London Symphony Orchestra performed his work; he earned a music composition degree from the California Institute of the Arts in 1989 studying with Morton Subotnick, taught at CalArts 1990–1994, invents custom instruments and software to monitor performer movement and vocalization to control synthesizers and video, served as technical advisor for a Judith Jamison video work for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and created Isadorar.

Mark Hosler People

Mark Hosler is a founding member of the experimental sound collage band Negativland; since 1980 the group has created records, videos, and radio and live performances using appropriated sound, image, and text. Negativland coined the term culture jamming in 1984; the group has twice been sued for copyright infringement and, since 1991, has publicly advocated significant reform of U.S. copyright laws. As a member of Negativland, Hosler has coauthored essays and articles on these issues for Billboard, Keyboard, College Music Journal, and NYU Law Commentator.

Mark Lapore holds a BA from the State University of New York and an MFA from the Massachusetts College of Art; his work has been exhibited at international festivals and institutions including the Rotterdam Film Festival (The Netherlands), New York Film Festival, Vienna Museum of Art (Austria), Whitney Museum (New York), Georges Pompido Museum of Modern Art, Tate Gallery (London), Bangkok and Hong Kong film festivals, San Francisco Cinematheque and the Whitney Biennial. Mark Napier, a painter turned digital artist, has produced web-only work since 1995; notable projects include Digital Landfill, The Shredder, The Distorted Barbie and Potatoland.org, and he created Feed, a web filter commissioned by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art for the 010101 show. Mark Tribe is an artist and occasional curator whose work engages art, technology, and politics; his work has been shown at DeCordova Biennial, Park Avenue Armory (New York City), and the National Center for Contemporary Art (Moscow), and he organized curatorial projects for the New Museum, MASS MoCA, and inSite_05. Martha Gever People

Gever is a past editor of The Independent Film and Video Monthly, a publication of the Association of Independent Video and Filmmakers. Her critical writing on video, media politics, and cultural institutions have appeared in October, Screen, Art in America, Art Journal, Afterimage, and elsewhere.

Martha Rosler People

Martha Rosler lives and works in New York; her videos, photo-texts, installations and performances have been presented at documenta (Kassel, Germany), several Whitney Biennials and major institutions in London and New York. A 2000 retrospective toured five European cities and New York (New Museum of Contemporary Art; International Center of Photography); in Fall 2006 she is participating in the Hannah Arendt Denkraum in Berlin and her work will be on view at the 2007 Skulptur Projekte in M¸nster, Germany and at Saigon Open City, the first biennial in Vietnam.

Martha Rosler is an artist working in video, photography, text and performance and she writes art criticism; she teaches photography and media studies at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and at the Whitney Independent Studies Program in New York City. Martha Wallner People

Martha Wallner worked in independent media as an activist, producer, programmer, administrator and consultant; she served as Grassroots Coordinator for the Media and Democracy Coalition, co-founded and coordinated the Deep Dish TV Satellite Network for seven years and was a member of the Paper Tiger TV collective for twelve years. She co-organized Xchange TV to package and distribute Nicaraguan video during U.S. military intervention in Central America in the '80s, was advocacy director for the Association of Independent Video and Filmmakers in the early '90s and later directed Berkeley Community Media in Berkeley, California. She holds a master's in Communications and Mass Culture from Hunter College CUNY and taught media studies at Ramapo College and the University of San Francisco.

Martin Arnold People

Martin Arnold is an Austrian filmmaker and installation artist with a Ph. D. in Media Psychology from the University of Vienna; he has taught film production at institutions in North America and Europe. Since 1989 his work has shown at 147 international film festivals including Cannes, Rotterdam, Oberhousen and the New York Film Festival, and he has won 36 awards. His films have screened in museums including the Centre Georges Pompidou and MoMA; recent installations Deanimated-The Invisible Ghost, Forsaken and Dissociated were created with Digital Fusion, Combustion and After Effects and are showing at the Kunsthalle Wien.
