Jacqueline Goss People

Jacqueline Goss is a media artist who uses analog and digital media to examine transitions between oral and written communication; her work centers the speaking subject and voice guides choice of tools and materials. Recent videos include The 100th Undone and There There Square; her work has screened at New York Video Festival and Rotterdam Film Festival. She has held fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts and Banff Centre; she earned an MFA in Electronic Arts from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1997 and teaches at Bard College.

Jaime Davidovich People

Jaime Davidovich studied at the School of Visual Arts, New York (1963), the University of Uruguay (1959–1961) and the National College, Buenos Aires (1954–1958); his solo exhibitions included Diane Brown Gallery (1987) and Exit Art (1991, Forces), and The Live Show was presented on Manhattan Cable TV (1982) and retrospectively at the American Museum of the moving Image (1989–90), with a group showing at the Whitney Museum of American Art (1976). His awards include NEA Visual Arts Fellowships (1990-84 and 1978), CAPS grants (1982 and 1975) and NYSCA grants (1982 and 1975); his work is held by the Dayton Art Institute, Museum of Modern Art Buenos Aires, the Everson Museum of Art, the H. Abrams Collection and the Akron Art Institute.

James Benning People

Filmmaker James Benning has been an exponent of structural film since the mid-1970s; his artistic approach has been influenced by mathematics. Village Voice critic J. Hoberman selected Benning's 11 X 14 as one of the top ten films of the 1970s; his works include AMERICAN DREAMS (juxtaposing Hank Aaron memorabilia and Arthur Bremer's writings) and LANDSCAPE SUICIDE (investigating two murders through their landscapes). After moving to California in the 1990s he made a California Trilogy—EL VALLEY CENTRO, LOS, and SOGOBI—and he currently teaches filmmaking at the California Institute for the Arts.

James Case Leal People

James Case Leal exhibited projects and shows between 2004 and 2009, with listings in New York, Dallas, Minneapolis, Copenhagen and Havana. Notable entries include Will you always? at Duffield, Brooklyn (2004) and NBC at BUIA Gallery, New York (2005); 2006 projects include FOREST at Cynthia Broan Gallery, Haven for the Dispossessed at Road Agent Gallery, Dallas (solo), and Ten on Four at Bendixen Contemporary Art, Copenhagen. He also showed The Audience is Listening and The New Americans in 2007, Unconvention - New Morning RNC in 2008 at Intermedia Arts, Minneapolis, and in 2009 Ascend at Queens Museum of Art/WaterPod, New York, with Chelsea visits Havana included in the 10th Havana Biennial at Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Havana (March 27–April 30, 2009).

James Richards and Steve Reinke People

Video and sound artist produces work from found and re-edited internet material, old videos, DVDs and original filmed sequences; edits material for single-screen cinema programmes and multichannel synchronised DVD installations. Materials are sometimes presented as ready-made and sometimes processed beyond recognition; during a week at the ETC the artist sought experience in imaging processes and methods for incorporating still images; planned to bring a large selection of video clips and stills to process using equipment not usually accessible to them.

James Rouvelle People

James Rouvelle is an artist, inventor and tinkerer who trained in classical music and works with micro-controllers and robotics; his practice integrates scientific methodology (logic, statistics, instrument building) with discourse and presentation. He is Professor of Interactive Media at The Maryland Institute in Baltimore; he has shown at Post in LA and Schmucker Art Center in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and has a commissioned work for ISEA 2006 in San Jose, CA.

He is a graduate of the Cooper Union School of Art, located in New York City, and he has screened his short films in various "underground" film festivals. James Yee People

James Yee served as Executive Director of the San Francisco-based Independent Television Service (ITVS) from 1994 to 2000 and was co-founder and first Executive Director of the National Asian American Telecommunications Association (NAATA) from 1981 to 1994; at NAATA he raised the profile of Asian American media and NAATA produced the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival. He served on the Gore Commission on Digital Television and the PBS Satellite Interconnection Committee and held board positions at multiple media organizations. He produced and consulted on documentaries and series, received a 1997 national Emmy for a.k.a. Don Bonus, and was awarded the Steve Tatsukawa and Asian Cine Vision Awards.

Jamie O'Neil People

Jamie O'Neil presents under the pseudonym Kurt Weibers in videos and performances and produces tactical media interventions, posing in self‑improvement seminars, staging hoaxes and remixing himself into dialogs. His written and video essays use voice, tone, gesture and humor to materialize aesthetic, scientific and philosophical problems; the virtual identity Kurt Weibers is the central refrain and, inspired by systems/dialogical/relational aesthetics, his investigations sit on the threshold of art and communication. Jamie Schulte People

Jamie Schulte is an engineer who designs systems engaging human aesthetics, culture and politics; he holds Masters degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering and in Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (KDD) from Carnegie Mellon University and is currently a robotics researcher at Stanford University. He has exhibited work in the U.S. and internationally in Canada, Germany, Austria, England and Brazil; he collaborated with Brooke Singer and Beatriz da Costa on the project Swipe, which received a Finishing Funds 2003 award from the Experimental Television Center in 2003.

Jane Greenberg People

Jane Greenberg received a Master's Degree in Communication from Cornell University; she produced and directed two films, NED, which screened at the Sinking Creek Film Festival, and SECOND GENERATION, which won first prize at the Carolina Film and Video Festival and Third Prize at the Visions of US contest. Since 1996 she has contributed to independent documentaries at Log In Productions and served as Associate Producer for SCHOOL PRAYER: A COMMUNITY AT WAR; she interviews Holocaust survivors for the SHOAH Foundation's videotaped archives, coordinated the Central New York Programmers Group's touring programs, received Finishing Funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, and is currently developing her own work.

Janet Biggs People

Janet Biggs is a New York City artist working in video, photography and performance; her work has filmed subjects such as motorcycles on the Bonneville Salt Flats, horses on treadmills, Olympic synchronized swimmers and kayaks in Arctic waters. She studied at Moore College of Art and pursued graduate work at Rhode Island School of Design; her work has been exhibited at institutions including the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art and MACRO Rome. Reviews have appeared in the New York Times; her awards include the New York State Council on the Arts Electronic Media and Film Program Award and the Arctic Circle Fellowship; her work is held in public collections and she is represented by Winkleman Gallery.

Janice Tanaka People

Janice Tanaka began in the performing arts with Allegro American Ballet Co., studied at the Conservatorio Internacionale de Musica and performed throughout the Americas; in 1979 she built an analog computer for processing video and produced video, film and multichannel installations. Her exhibitions include major museums in Los Angeles, New York and internationally; broadcasts include POV and The Learning Channel, and awards include AFI, NEA and Rockefeller support. She designed CD-ROM games (1994–1997), was Artist in Residence at Sony Electronics (1997–1998), and her work is held in museum and library collections.

Jared Nielsen People

Jared Nielsen engages in the distribution of material, energy, and information flows; his projects take forms including actions outside quantification, deliberate expenditure of useless energy, media experiments probing folds in perception and processes of thinking, and explorations of interacting assemblage components. He questions the role of autonomous subjectivity and finite representation through collaborative, open-ended projects that accumulate over time. Sources include horror and science fiction film, cognitive science, economics, the built environment, music, pedagogical structures and garbage; works are realized through orgiastic recycling, self-organizing educational forums, digital media and public interaction.

Jason Bernagozzi People

Jason Bernagozzi is a video and new media artist based in Rochester, NY; he uses video, sound and electronic forms to produce single-channel video and electronic media environments that explore liminal states of language, memory and perceptual experience. He received a Master of Fine Arts in Electronic Integrated Art from Alfred University in 2010. His work was exhibited nationally and internationally at the European Media Arts Festival in Osnabruk, Germany (2009), the LOOP Video Art Festival in Barcelona, Spain (2009, 2010), the Beyond/In Western NY Biennial (2010) and the Yan Gerber International Arts Festival (2nd) in Hebei Province, China (2010).

Jason Freeman People

Composer and media artist Jason Freeman creates works that combine mathematical structures, musical intuition and live performance to challenge audiences and blur boundaries between art and technology and between composer, performer and listener; his interactive works have been presented at the Lincoln Center Festival, Transmediale and Boston CyberArts and covered in the New York Times and Billboard. Billboard called N.A.G. an example of the Web's mind-expanding possibilities.

Jason Livingston People

Jason Livingston is a film and video maker based in Brooklyn and Ithaca, NY; he has also spent time in Iowa City (including working with the THAW festival) and in Portland, Ore. His work has received awards and been programmed at festivals and venues including Rotterdam, NYUFF, PDX, Cinematexas, Media City and Margaret Mead; Under Foot & Overstory, winner of a Jury Prize from the New York Underground Film Festival, is available for rental from the Canadian Filmmakers Distribution Centre and some recent video appears on ETC: Experimental Television Center 1969-2009, a 5-DVD anthology distributed by Electronic Arts Intermix. He is a recipient of a New York State Council of the Arts Individual Artist Grant for his work-in-progress, INTERSTATE.

Jason Longo People

Jason Longo received a BFA in Film, Photography, and the Visual Arts from Ithaca College in 1994; he has worked for Log In Productions as cameraman, editor and sound recordist on over 20 documentaries. His credits include editing FRONTLINE: My Retirement Dreams, editing P.O.V.'s School Prayer: A Community at War, editing NOVA: The Science of Murder, and serving as director of photography and editor on From Chechnya to Chernobyl. He was the recipient of a Finishing Funds award from the Experimental Television Center and holds numerous documentary, industrial and broadcast credits with listed roles and dates.
