Ithaca Video Project Projections 1974-1976 Groups

Ithaca Video Project (also named Ithaca Video Projects) was a not-for-profit media resource organization incorporated in 1971 and directed by Philip Mallory Jones; it provided workshops, equipment loans, post-production access and production assistance for artists in the Ithaca region. IVP produced and distributed videotapes and films (including series on Afro-Americans), developed the Videomation video-film interface technique, and initiated the Annual Ithaca Video Festival (established 1975, touring from 1976 into the early 1980s). The organization received New York State Council on the Arts funding, proposed a Haiti Citadel restoration pilot directed by Frederick Mangones, and ceased activities around 1984 with many tapes deposited at the Media Center of Visual Studies Workshop.

1983 Ithaca Video Projects Festival Chronology

In February 1984 Afterimage reported that the 9th Annual Festival which contained 22 tapes might not be circulated; 80 weeks of rentals had to be secured to insure that expenses could be met. The 9th IVP Festival was funded in 1982-83.

Jack Beck and Matt Costanza People

Jack Beck is Associate Professor in the School of Film & Animation at the Rochester Institute of Technology; his film Pond's Eye was a Student Academy Award National Finalist. He has completed numerous short works, assisted editing a Sundance-winning documentary, and associate-produced a comedy feature. He completed a seven-part Water Works series (final video Aqualesce) which premiered at the Tank Gallery; Joe: Body Electric screened at 25 festivals. Field shoots include 2002 Panama with UCLA biologist Barney Schlinger and 2005 Churchill, Manitoba; his works have garnered 200+ screenings.

Jack Waters People

Jack Waters is a film maker, writer, media artist, choreographer and performer; his video short The Male Gayze screened at the Whitney Museum Of American Art in February 1995 and his film works are preserved by Visual AIDS' Estate Project for Artists With AIDS and held by NYC's Film Maker's Cooperative and New York University's Fales Library and Special Collections. He created the digital art work Superschmoozio and co-founded Naked Eye Cinema, a component of Abc No Rio and an international venue for experimental film from 1985-1992. As a journalist he contributed to Color Life and LGNY and wrote for Conde Nast Bride's Magazine and Poz Magazine, and he was a panelist at the February 2000 College Art Association panel Archiving the Unarchivable.

Jackie Passmore People

Jackie Passmore is a London-based film and video artist originally from the US; she has exhibited at ICA London and Tate Gallery and collaborated with Cory Arcangel [TEAM Gallery, NYC] and assume vivid astro focus [Tate, LA MOCA.]. She is known for live video performances in Europe, touring with Stereolab and Ladytron and presenting live mix video shows made from hand-manipulated 16mm and cut-paper collages that she reworks and manually triggers to projection for audiences of 500 to 15,000. Since moving to England she has completed over 60 video projects, many as project artist on activist media education projects.

Jackson Mac Low People

Jackson Mac Low is a poet, composer, author of 26 books, and a painter and multimedia performance artist. He has read, performed and lectured across North America, Europe and New Zealand and has taught at institutions including New York University (1966-73), SUNY–Albany (1984), SUNY–Binghamton (1989), UC San Diego (Regents' Lecturer, 1990), Naropa Institute, Schule fuer Dichtung in Wien, Bard College and Brown University (1994). He received fellowships including the Guggenheim Foundation (1985) and Fulbright (New Zealand, 1986); his visual works were exhibited at venues such as Galerie 1900-2000 (Paris, 1989) and Galleria F. Borghese (Rome, 1990) through 1995.

Jaclyn Genega makes films that explore physical communication and altered perceptions of time induced by trauma and the realization of the self; her practice emphasizes presence rather than authorial generation of images. Jacolby Satterwhite is a multimedia artist born in Columbia, South Carolina; he holds an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania and a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. He attended residencies at Skowhegan School for Painting and Sculpture, Harvestworks, and the Center For Photography at Woodstock and has been included in group exhibitions and performances at Exit Art, Rush Arts Gallery, The Kitchen, PS.1 MoMA, and The Smithsonian.
