Media artist Hisao Ihara was born in Tokyo, Japan, and grew up with two brothers and three sisters; he has recently become interested in editing large amounts of information people deal with every day and a long quoted list of keywords is presented as current concerns. History of Ant Farm (1968-1978) Groups
Ant Farm, founded in October 1968 by Chip Lord and Doug Michels in San Francisco, produced inflatable sculptures, architectural performances and video works with members including Hudson Marquez, Joe Hall and Curtis Schreier. Major projects included TimeSlice parachute structures (1969), Gas Station and Truckstop Network (1970), House of the Century (1971), Cadillac Ranch (1974), Media Burn and The Eternal Frame (1975), Dolphin Embassy and the publication Automerica. The group exhibited at the Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston and the Berkeley Art Museum; their Pier 40 studio burned on August 7, 1978, after which Ant Farm disbanded and most slide and video documentation was saved.

Harald Bode surveys the history of electronic sound modification from 1896 to the present, tracing electromechanical precursors such as Thaddeus Cahill’s Telharmonium and instruments of the electronic era including the Trautonium, Hammond Novachord, RCA synthesizer and Moog modular systems; he documents technologies and effects including filters, envelope shaping, vocoder/voder, ring modulation, delay lines, tape techniques, flanging, phasing, frequency shifters, harmonizers and reverberation. The essay cites developments and devices by Les Paul, Eventide, Marshall and others, lists patents and publications, and notes presentations in 1980–81; manuscript courtesy Harald Bode and Peer Bode, published in J. Audio Engineering Society, October 1984.
