Gavin Russom People

Delia Gonzalez and Gavin Russom are New York-based artists who exhibit video, performance, theatrical, musical and visual art in international galleries and collaborate on live music and film. The DFA and Astralwerks Records released their first full-length album Days of Mars on October 4th, 2005; the album follows their 2004 single El Monte and comprises four extended tracks including Rise, Black Spring, Relevee and 13 Moons, with a short film in progress for Relevee. Delia, originally from Miami, moved to New York in the mid-1990s; Gavin, from Providence, built a modular analog synthesizer around 2000 and the duo cite influences from Alice Coltrane to krautrock and pioneers such as Terry Riley and Vangelis.

1973 Gay Video Workshop Chronology

Gay Video Workshop took place at the Experimental Television Center 11/30-12/2/73; it was organized by David Sasser and Queer Blue Light Gay Video Revolution and presented as a public service project of the Creative Artists Public Service Program. David Sasser described it in a letter to Ralph Hocking (9/23/73) as an intensive three-day-and-a-half videotape workshop for gay men and women from organizations across the State; the stated focus was on minority uses of the public access channels of CATV systems in New York State.

Gearoid Dolan People

Gearoid Dolan is an Irish artist living and working in New York since 1987; he continues to develop an ever-evolving project titled screaMachine, begun in 1987. ScreaMachine is realized as installations, performances, audio and video works, films and digital media art; Dolan's practice is experimental and oriented toward new media, experiential and time based art, and the project is presented at www.screaMachine.com.

Gene Youngblood People

Gene Youngblood wrote Expanded Cinema (E.P. Dutton, 1970) and co‑taught a 1970 video history course at California Institute of the Arts with Nam June Paik. He has taught video history and theory and lectured at more than 400 colleges and universities. Since 1988 he has been Professor of Moving Image Art at the College of Santa Fe, where a 15‑week, six‑hour‑weekly course surveys 35 years of independent video in six categories. He also taught avant‑garde film and Media and Democracy and is writing a textbook while completing two books, The Challenge to Create on the Same Scale As We Can Destroy and The Broadcast and Its Discontents.

Geoff Matters People

Geoff Matters uses his own software GDAM with homemade and repurposed physical controllers in live and interactive performances as GeoffGDAM and Lance Blisters and founded the Share forum. He performs as Lance Blisters using MIDI guitar, microphone and custom software and has performed in the US and Europe; he composed and performed music and video for koosil-ja/dance KUMIKOKIMOTO 2003–2006, including mech[a] and Live Processing, receiving a commission from the American Music Center's Live Music for Dance Program and grants from the Experimental Television Center and Meet The Composer.

George Kuchar People

George Kuchar is an independent videomaker noted for genre manipulation and subversion; he created dozens of brilliantly edited, hilarious, observant, often diaristic tapes using an 8mm camcorder, dime-store props, not-so-special effects, friends as actors and the pageant that is life for his studio. In 1992 Kuchar received the Maya Deren Award for Independent Film and Video Artists from the American Film Institute.

George Quasha People

George Quasha is a poet, artist and publisher who authored books including Somapoetics, Word-Yum, Giving the Lily Back Her Hands and Ainu Dreams; he edited anthologies including America a Prophecy, Open Poetry and the Station Hill Blanchot Reader. He has been co-publisher/editor of Station Hill Press since 1978 and of Barrytown, Ltd., and lives in Barrytown, New York. Since the 1970s he has collaborated with Charles Stein and Gary Hill on performances, installations and video; a performance with Hill and Stein opened at On the Boards in Seattle on March 4th, 2000.

George Stoney People

George Stoney wrote, directed and produced over fifty documentaries and television series, including All My Babies (1953) and The Uprising of '34 (1995); he was executive producer of the Challenge for Change program at the National Film Board of Canada (1968–1970). He taught film at the University of Southern California, City College of New York, Columbia, Stanford and New York University and received the NYU Great Teacher Award (1988); he was founding board member of the National Federation of Local Cable Programmers (1976–1986) and received the Manhattan Borough President's Award (1989) and the Leo Dratfield Award.

Gerald O'Grady People

Gerald O'Grady, Ph.D., founded Media Study (Buffalo) and initiated the Center for Media Study at SUNY Buffalo, directing its Educational Communications Center that served 128 departments. He came to the University at Buffalo in 1967 as a medieval specialist, established the Center in 1972, and coordinated a November 21–22, 1974 conference at SUNY Albany. He was Visiting Scholar in Harvard's Department of Afro‑American Studies and Fellow of the W.E.B. DuBois Institute, produced PBS documentaries supported by Ford, Rockefeller, Markle, MacArthur, NEA and NEH, and since 1979 has edited over 30 film-retrospective catalogues.

Gerald O'Grady, Ph.D., joined the University at Buffalo in 1967 and founded and directed UB's Center for Media Study in 1972 while founding Media Study (Buffalo). Gerald O'Grady: The Perspective from Buffalo Bibliography

Gerald O'Grady, holder of two Ph.D.s in medieval literature and a teacher of literature and communications, directs SUNY/Buffalo's Educational Communications Center, founded the Center for Media Study and established Media Study/Buffalo. From Buffalo he organized workshops, screenings, distribution and funding services, internships, an NEA filmmaker-in-the-schools program and a summer youth-in-residence; Media Study acquired the 100,000-square-foot Mars Hotel housing fifty climate-controlled editing rooms, offices, living space and New York State's largest sound studio. The ECC operates public radio station WBFO and a language laboratory with video and film, and planned campus facilities include two 2400 square foot color television studios with 2-inch and 1-inch capability and satellite connection.
