Paul Wong People

Paul Wong is a pioneer video artist and media activist whose work ranges from documentary to new media installations; his works have been both censored and honored and are held in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art. He is a founding director of Video Inn, noted as one of the clearly leading international centers of alternative video; he lives in Canada.

Pauline Oliveros People

Pauline Oliveros was a composer, performer and humanitarian who opened sensibilities to sound; since the 1960s she influenced American Music through improvisation, meditation and electronic music. Her recognitions include John Rockwell's naming of Bye Bye Butterfly, US representation at the Osaka World's Fair, a Kennedy Center retrospective and a letter of distinction from the American Music Center at Lincoln Center. She founded the Pauline Oliveros Foundation Inc. in Kingston, NY (1985); her awards include a Bessie and an NEA Fellowship, she appears on more than 17 recordings and has written for the Leonardo Music Journal.

Peer Bode People

Peer Bode is an American new-media artist and educator who worked at the Experimental Television Center in Binghamton and Owego from the late 1970s and served as ETC Programs Coordinator (1977–85, 1986–87); he collaborated on hand-built and digital video instruments with David Jones and Ralph Hocking. He is Professor of Video Arts and Co-Director of the Institute for Electronic Arts at Alfred University; his work is produced at ETC, the IEA and Pep Studios, and Transport (2001) was shown at the 2003 European Media Art Festival.

Peggy Ahwesh People

Peggy Ahwesh has worked behind the camera since the early '80s from Pittsburgh and makes films that combine hanging out and acting out with serendipitous occurrences and telling details; her characters are outspoken and the films respond to the muffling zeitgeist. Her work is described as documents and distilled essays about ruptures between childhood, adolescence and adulthood that penetrate American ritual and unearth subterranean roots of sandbox antics, doll playing, bedroom dalliance, tourist attractions, social gatherings and S/M love relationships. Peggy Gale People

Born in Guyana and educated in Florence and at the University of Toronto (honours B.A., 1967), Peggy Gale worked at the Art Gallery of Ontario before serving as Art Metropole's first Video/Film Director (1975–79). From 1974 (full-time since 1981) she worked as an independent curator and writer; she served as Canadian commissioner to the XIV Bienal Internacional de S„o Paulo (1977) and the XII Biennale de Paris (1982) and curated internationally in Berlin, Vancouver, Madrid and Tokyo. She curated and hosted TVOntario's 1994 series Video Art Vidéo, published Videotexts (1995) and edited Video re/View (1996), and has served on national arts juries and committees.

Penelope Umbrico People

Penelope Umbrico is an artist living and working in New York City; she holds a BFA from the Ontario College of Art, Canada, and an MFA from the School of Visual Arts, New York. She has exhibited widely and is represented in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum and the International Center of Photography. She teaches in graduate and undergraduate photography programs at the School of Visual Arts, Parsons School of Design, Rhode Island School of Design and Bard College; her awards include a New York Foundation of the Arts Catalogue Grant and a New York Foundation of the Arts Artists' Fellowship.

Penny Lane and Brian Frye People

Penny Lane is an independent filmmaker living in western Massachusetts; her collaborative and solo experimental, narrative and documentary videos have screened at AFI FEST, Int'l Film Festival Rotterdam, San Francisco and Seattle Int'l Film Festivals, Women in the Director's Chair, Santa Fe Art Institute, MOMA, and DUMBO Art Under the Bridge. She earned an MFA in Integrated Electronic Arts at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a BA in American Culture at Vassar College; from 2003–5 she was a core producer of the Hudson-Mohawk Independent Media Center and worked with youth at Children's Media Project and The Ark, Inc. She is a visiting assistant professor of video at Hampshire College and received a 2007 Finishing Funds award from the Experimental Television Center.

People's Video Theater is a New York City alternative video journalism collective founded by Elliot Glass and Ken Marsh; it emphasized community video and political issues and conducted weekend screenings in which audience discussions were taped and replayed. Members included Judy Fiedler, Howard Gudstadt, Molly Hughes, Ben Levine, Richard Malone, Elaine Milosh and Richard Nusser.
