The Art Style Computer Processing System Bibliography
Describes the art-style computer processing system, a centrally located computer with remote controls designed to manipulate commercial television broadcasts into rule-governed period visions derived from historical schools of painting; the system encodes numerous movements including Rayonism, Cubism and Impressionism. It gives a usage example of processing a network news broadcast through Rayonism and cites Michel Larionov and Nathalie Gontcharova; Larionov taught at the University of Moscow and published the Rayonist manifesto in 1913. The system is stochastic and intended for integration into cable television, with components under development by technological artists worldwide.

Vibeke Sorensen delivered a talk, Panel: The Artist in the 2 and 3 -D Marketplace, at the ACM SIGGRAPH Conference in Boston, Massachusetts on August 2, 1989; she examined artist–industry collaborations and argued for artists as researchers and equal partners with computer scientists in interdisciplinary computer graphics and scientific visualization. She cited Apple Computer, Pacific Data Images, NCSA, SDSC, the Art(n) group, and the National Science Foundation (1987 report), and described projects including NCSA’s Renaissance Teams, an Omnimax project, two Mars Rover animation sequences with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s Dr. Brian Muirhead, and an NSF-funded interactive stereoscopic animation project with Dr. Lynn Teneyck at SDSC; she advised artists to prioritize innovation, education, and integrity.
