Brian Frye is a filmmaker, curator and freelance journalist. He was born in 1974 in San Francisco, spent his childhood in Santa Rosa (immortalized as the creepiest town in California in Hitchcock's A Shadow of a Doubt), received a BA from UC Berkeley and an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. He moved to New York in 1997, suffered through two years at NYU, and founded New York's Robert Beck Memorial Cinema with Bradley Eros in 1998. He was included in the Whitney Biennial 2002 and the New York Film Festival 2002, and has shown his films at many other venues. He has published feature articles and reviews in magazines including: the New Republic, Film Comment, Civilization, University Business, the Independent Film and Video Monthly.
