Making Waves - Lanesville TV Groups
Videofreex, a video collective formed after Woodstock, moved into Maple Tree Farm in Lanesville in June 1971 with a promised New York State Council on the Arts grant and set up a small studio using low-cost videotape recorders (VTRs). With technical help from Joseph Paul they built an antenna and improvised a transmitter and on March 19, 1972 launched Channel 3 Lanesville TV, producing local programs including a trout-stocking tape and the Buckaroo Bart children's show and prompting an FBI inquiry. The broadcasts continued until 1977 as membership and local services dwindled.
