Amy Greenfield's July–August 1981 American Film article summarizes interviews with David Ross, Barbara London, Nam June Paik, John Hanhardt, Davidson Gigliotti and Ralph Hocking on videotape preservation; Anthology Film Archives' program began in 1983. Ross, now at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, established video collections at the Everson Museum, the Long Beach Museum of Art and the University Art Museum in Berkeley; London at MoMA rerecorded selected half-inch tapes onto one-inch. Paik proposed a national playback/recording equipment center and federally funded storage to address portapak and half-inch/one-inch/two-inch obsolescence; Gigliotti researched 1960s video history and restoration and Anthology planned to publish his essay in 1984.
