Scott Noegel

Dr. Noegel is Assistant Professor of Near Eastern Studies in the Jackson School of International Studies at the University of Washington where he teaches a wide range of courses on Middle Eastern languages and cultures. He has lectured on diverse topics, and currently serves both as a Seattle Arts Commissioner and as a member of Mayor Paul Schell's Arts Task Force. In addition to his educational commitments, Dr. Noegel is the creator and producer of OffLine, a nationally syndicated television screening and distributor of independent films and videos recently contracted by Free Speech TV (Boulder, CO) for additional distribution and web casting. OffLine was the 1998 recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts, and reaches more than ten million homes nationally through its network of cable programmers, satellite feeds, and netcast providers.

An established media-arts organizer, Dr. Noegel also is the recipient of a number of media arts-related grants and was a 1997 nominee for the Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship for Film, Video, and Multimedia Art. He has served as a representative panelist and juror for numerous media and community events. He also is cofounder of the Seattle Independent Film and Video Consortium, a clearing house for local and national media producers. Dr. Noegel has more than fifteen years of experience in film and video production, post-production, organization, and publicity, and is a trained educator.

    Nomads was founded by a group of artists, curators and arts administrators dedicated to exploring the cross-section of art and technology; the collective views the Web as a mechanism for the collective creation and dissemination of work by artists. Steve Bradley practices sound performance, time-based media and material culture and collects debris from urban and suburban landscapes; his work has been exhibited at the Washington Center for Photography and Pulse Art. He curated art@radio, was artist in residence at Communication Front (Bulgaria), has performed at international festivals and is presently professor of visual art at the University of Maryland.

  • Christa Erickson People

    Christa Erickson is Assistant Professor of Art at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, where she teaches electronic media arts; she is an interdisciplinary artist investigating spaces mediated by electronic technologies and producing installations that combine digital media, sculpture, video, performance, and the internet. Her works have been exhibited in New York City, at InSITE `94, the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis and the Banff Center for the Arts; she holds an MFA from the University of California, San Diego and two bachelor's degrees from the University of Texas, Austin.

    Simon Kilmurry has served as Executive Director of American Documentary, Inc. since October 2006; he joined AmDoc in 1999 as Managing Director and became Chief Operating Officer in 2000. He worked for ten years at Teachers & Writers Collaborative, ending as Associate Director, and has served as board member and treasurer of Elders Share the Arts and East Harlem Block Schools; he currently serves as treasurer on the board of Teachers & Writers Collaborative. He attended the University of Edinburgh and Columbia University Business School's Institute for Not-for-Profit Management (Executive Program).

  • Laura McGough People

    Nomads was founded by artists, curators and arts administrators to explore the cross-section of art and technology; the group views the Web as a mechanism for collective creation and dissemination of artists' work. Laura McGough is a curator, critic and media artist and co-director of NOMADS; since 1990 she has organized exhibitions internationally, published on new media, contributed to Inuit Media from Igloolik (forthcoming 1999), lectured across the US and Canada, is Multidisciplinary Specialist at the National Endowment for the Arts, and has been artist in residence at the Tariagsuk Video Centre in Igloolik and taught at the University of Maryland.

  • Kevin McGarry People

    Kevin McGarry joined Rhizome after graduating from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts; at NYU he studied Film/Video production and Art History and held internships with Electronic Arts Intermix, the New York Underground Film Festival, and the Ocularis microcinema in Brooklyn. His interest in new media is linked to digital literacy and a stated affinity for role-playing, cartography, and atypical communities; he has taught video in New York and New Hampshire and produces his own work and collaborations on Sundays.
