Rashaad Newsome

Rashaad Newsome is an interdisciplinary artist working with videos, performances, sculptures and photographs that interrogate notions of cultural/social signifiers as well as how they are formed. He was born in New Orleans and lives and works in New York City.

Newsome will use his fellowship to create the next version of his latest work Shade Compositions, a multi-sensory live performance consisting of a varying number of black females performing a choreographed action piece for presentations at The Kitchen, New York in 2009. https://www.rashaadnewsome.com/

    Frank Shifreen is affiliated with Columbia University and Adelphi University; he has recent exhibitions at Scott Pfaffman Gallery, TNC Gallery and Open Space Gallery.     Stefani Bardin is a media maker whose work spans video, film, installation and performance; she has presented work nationally and internationally at venues including the University of Technology Sydney, UCLA Hammar Museum, The Slade School of Art, Hallwalls Contemporary Art Center and Alfred University. After many years on projects revolving around the writings of German cultural critic Walter Benjamin, she is developing a body of work on food titled Chemical Proust: Remembrance of Things Pastiche; she received a Finishing Funds award in 2009 from the Experimental TV Center.     Nao Bustamante, a performance art pioneer from the San Joaquin Valley of California, works in performance art, sculpture, installation, video art, pop music and experimental rips in time; her work has been presented at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Arts and the Kiasma Museum of Helsinki.
