Natalie Bookchin

Natalie Bookchin has been creating online projects since 1997. She has worked with political theorist Jackie Stevens to initiate and develop the first phase of the online project agoraXchange, an online collaboration for imagining and building a massive multiplayer online game that offers a tangible political alternative to our current world order. She is known internationally for her online art work, including a project entitled Metapet, a parody of capitalist productivity in which the player must maximize the profit margin without alienating the Metapet worker.

She is a recipient of a Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship and a Guggenheim Fellowship. Her work is exhibited at institutions world-wide including PS1, Mass MOCA, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona, KunstWerke, Berlin, the Generali Foundation, Vienna, the Walker Art Center, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Shedhale in Zurich.

    Suzanne Goldenberg holds a BA from Mc Gill University and an MFA from Maryland Institute College of Art; she is presently working on the production and design for a quarterly online contemporary arts journal and at Harvestworks. Her exhibitions have included the Great Hall of Art (NY), Kibla Media Center (Slovenia), Gallery Remont (Yugoslovia), MaMa Media Center (Croatia), Jeleni Gallery (Czech Republic) and galleries in NY and Baltimore. She received a Gottleib Foundation Artist Grant (2003) and support from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (2003).

    Poland native Karolina Sobecka works with interactivity, physical computing, video, animation and other media; her practice is informed by advances in science and technology and their repercussions in popular culture. She holds a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from Calarts in Experimental Animation/Integrated Media; she studied and taught in the University of Washington's Digital Arts and Experimental Media PhD program. Her work has been exhibited at festivals and galleries worldwide; she has received awards including Creative Capital and the Princess Grace Foundation.

    Melinda Rackham is an artist and writer based in Sydney, Australia; she has worked online since the mid 1990s from the domain www.subtle.net, creating imaginal and hypertextual sites that explore online identity, locality, sexuality, community, viral symbiosis and trans species relations. She is undertaking a Phd in Virtual Media at College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales; her writing has appeared in Ctheory, Culture Machine, Leonardo and Realtime, and she has presented at Contagion (Australia), Invencao (Brazil) and Consciousness Reframed (Wales). She has held residencies at Polar Circuit (Finland) and Discovery at Banff Center for the Arts (Canada); her award-winning web works have been included in Beyond Interface, Arco Electronico, Perspecta, Transmediale, File, Art Entertainment Network, The Montreal Biennale, European Media Art Festival and ISEA.

    Jennifer Gonz·lez teaches at the University of California at Santa Cruz; her writings on art, technology and the body have appeared in Frieze, World Art, Art Journal and Inscriptions and in anthologies including The Encyclopedia of Aesthetics, The Cyborg Handbook, The Cybercultures Reader and Race in Cyberspace. She was recently awarded the Joanne Cassullo Teaching Fellowship at the Whitney Museum of American Art; she taught critical theory in the Whitney Independent Study Program in the fall of 2002.
