Chika Iijima

CHiKA is a graphic designer and a live computer visuals artist working within New York's expanded cinema community and VJ scene. Her videos implement geometric minimalist patterns and original graphics in unique, repetitive combinations. She has performed at The Museum of Modern Art, The Hammer Museum, Mutek, The Mapping Festival, Decibel festival, Platform Bohenstrasses, Thé‚tre Maisonneuve, Asia Contemporary Week, San Francisco Art Institute, Eyebeam, Monkeytown, The Issue Project, Galapagos Art Space, Tonic, Eyewash as well as private parties, festivals, events, galleries and night clubs.

Since CHiKA started performing live in the summer of 2004, she has become very active in the experimental music and video underground scene in NYC. She is a member of the Share community, a weekly multimedia open jam. She was recently featured Club Chroma on Joost and Eyewash 3 DVD by Forward Motion Theater. https://imagima.com/

    Nam June Paik is presented as a seminal figure in the emergence of video art; he experimented with television in Germany and Japan, moved to New York in 1964, and with Shuya Abe developed the Video Synthesizer in 1970, producing works such as the T. V. Chair and the Television Bra. The text surveys artists working in video—Keith Sonnier, Linda Benglis, Joan Jonas, Nancy Holt, William Wegman, Michael Snow, Bruce Nauman, Peter Campus and George Boiling—and documents practices using portable videotape recorders, live feedback, colorization and synthesized color, video environments, and independent video groups and cable/public-access distribution.

  • Tarikh Korula People

    Tarikh Korula is an artist whose video and sound work has been shown at ISEA (France and Japan), Siggraph, London’s ICA and in the online collection Refresh: The Art of the Screensaver at ArtMuseum.net; his pieces have been performed in New York City venues. He received The Media Alliance’s Independent Radio and Sound Art Fellowship in 2002 for City/Slice, was Research and Development Artist-in-Residence at Eyebeam Digital Atelier in 2003, and earned his Masters from NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) in 2000. He has taught workshops at FIT and The Edit Center, runs Uncommon Projects, and works experimentally with consumer electronics, video, software and audio, producing projects including Square Dance and L'il Sis.

    Barbara Lattanzi is an artist whose practice involves constructing and applying "cinema software"; she has written and applied digital code for projects including motion-picture riffing and improvisation (Unwriting), remediation of particular "structuralist" films of the 1970s (HF Critical Mass), reexamination of the sing-along as ideology critique (C-SPAN Karaoke), and perceptual experimentation with extended-duration moving-image structures (Optical De-dramatization Engine).
