Constructing Eternity: An Interview with Van McElwee Interview
Van McElwee is a video artist who reconstructs realities through dense, collage-like layering; his single-channel works and multi-screen installations include Folded Follies (1993), Bindu (1993), Fragments of India (1993), Transfinite Loops (1996), Radio Island (1997), Luxor (1998) and Confluence (1999). T. L. Reid interviewed McElwee in August 1999 at Webster University, St. Louis; the record states he has produced over 30 videos and installations, and that the Forum for Contemporary Art, St. Louis presented his work across its entire third floor while Columbus, Ohio's Science Museum purchased his Transport installation. His work has been broadcast on 260 PBS stations and he received seven NEA Independent Production Fund fellowships and a Government of India travel grant.
