Public Access Celebration: July 6,7,8, 1972 Report on Public Access in New York Groups

Survival Arts Media was formed in 1972 in Jamestown, NY, founded by Howie Gutstadt; members included Gail Edwards, Howard Gutstadt, Molly Hughes, Ben Levine, Danny Bucciano and Richard Malone. The collective produced community education and health programming, multimedia shows and regional videotapes; it participated in the Public Access Celebration in New York City (July 6–8, 1972) and released a report in January 1973. Howard Gutstadt documented the Jamestown studio development (1977), describing equipment such as Sony 8400 portapaks, Super 8, a Kodak VPX transfer system and an Electronic Associates of Berkeley Videolab; the group co-released the Artists and Craftsmen Anthology with the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System, funded in part by the New York State Council on the Arts.
