    Takahiko Iimura, active in experimental cinema since 1960 and video art since 1970, discusses two interrelated video works on identity produced in 1994 and 1996: AIUEONN Six Features and Performance: A I U E O NN Six Features.     Takahiko Iimura created the videotape series Talking to Myself: Phenomenological Operation (1978) and exhibited one tape as an installation in 1979; the work is based on a sentence by Jacques Derrida from Speech and Phenomena, and Other Essays on Husserl's Theory of Signs (translated by David B. Allison). Iimura records himself with synchronized, dubbed and erased audio to produce splits between the speaking I and the hearing I, including a silent voice and a circular phrasing in piece no. 2; the installation plays material on two tapes across two monitors with four speakers using time-shifting and overlap.
