Ross McElwee

McElwee's films have been included in the festivals of Berlin, London, Vienna, Rotterdam, Florence, Sydney, and Wellington. Retrospectives include the Museum of Modern Art; the Art Institute of Chicago; the American Museum of the Moving Image, New York; and …tats généraux du film documentaire.

McElwee has received fellowships and grants from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, the American Film Institute, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Massachusetts Arts Council. Ross McElwee has been teaching filmmaking at Harvard University since 1986 where he is a professor in the Department of Visual and Environmental Studies.

    John G. Hanhardt is Senior curator of film and media arts at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum; he holds a B.A. from the University of Rochester and an M.A. from New York University. He was film coordinator at the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis (1972–74) and curator and head of the film and video department at the Whitney Museum of American Art (1974–96). He curated exhibitions and film and video series at the Whitney and Guggenheim, edited Video Culture: A Critical Investigation (1986) and received the Peter Norton Family Foundation Curator's Grant (1993).

    Daniel Eisenberg is Professor and Chair of Film, Video, and New Media (1994) at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and holds a BA (1976) from Binghamton University; his work has been exhibited and screened at the Museum of Modern Art (New York), University of Amsterdam, Goldsmiths College (University of London), Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris), Whitney Museum of American Art (New York), the Bangkok Experimental Film Festival, Pacific Film Archive (Berkeley), Musee du Cinema (Brussels) and Filmmuseum (Munich).   • Van McElwee People

    Van McElwee is a video artist whose work transforms electronic fragments into explorations of sound, motion and time. Reconstructions: The Video Image Outside of Time comprises a single-channel tape and 27 Cibachrome photographs made from computer files; the tape links interiors shot in the United States, Europe and India into nonstop motion while the photographs present stopped electronic images; McElwee has produced experimental video since 1976, received numerous grants and awards including The American Film Institute Independent Filmmaker Award, and is professor of media at Webster University in Saint Louis.

    Mark Lapore holds a BA from the State University of New York and an MFA from the Massachusetts College of Art; his work has been exhibited at international festivals and institutions including the Rotterdam Film Festival (The Netherlands), New York Film Festival, Vienna Museum of Art (Austria), Whitney Museum (New York), Georges Pompido Museum of Modern Art, Tate Gallery (London), Bangkok and Hong Kong film festivals, San Francisco Cinematheque and the Whitney Biennial. He received the LEF Award (2003), a Guggenheim Fellowship (1997), Parabola Film Arts recognition (1990) and a Black Maria Film Festival prize (1989); he was awarded Fulbright Scholar Grants in 1993 and 2001 and a Jerome Foundation Grant in 1991.
