John Baldessari

Since 1960, Baldessari's works have been shown in one-man and group shows in the United States and around the world in such countries as Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, England, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Austria, and France. Recent retrospective exhibitions venues include Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wein, Vienna, Austria; the Kunsthaus, Graz, Austria, and at the Musee d'art Contemporain de Nimes, France. Recent solo exhibition venues include Deutsche Guggenheim Museum, Berlin, Germany; Marian Goodman Gallery, New York.

His work has been included in many group exhibitions including the following recent shows: DRIFT: A collaborative project by John Baldessari, Juliao Sarmento, Lawrence Weiner; Centro de Belem, Lisbon, Portugal; Beyond Geometry: Experiments in Form, 1940's-1970's, Los Angeles County Museum of Art; The Last Picture Show: Artists Using Photography 1960-1982, Armand Hammer Museum of Art, Los Angeles; Behind the Facts. Interfunktionen 1968-1975, Joan Miro Foundation, Barcelona, Spain. His works are represented in many permanent collections including the Tate, London, England; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Stedelijk Museum of Modern Art, Amsterdam, Holland; Kunstmuseum, Basel, Switzerland; Australian National Gallery; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles and Chicago; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; and the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Baldessari is the recipient of the College Art Association's Lifetime Achievement Award, 1999; Governor's Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Visual Arts, California, 1997; Spectrum-International Award for Photography of the Foundation of Lower Saxony, Germany, 1999; Guggenheim Award, 1986. Photography, video and mixed-media installations have been shown internationally, including LOOP (Barcelona) and the 51st Venice Biennale; work also appeared in curated exhibitions in the United States. Residencies include Yaddo, the Experimental Television Center and the Cité Internationale des Arts; in Paris the artist grew 300 trees from seeds of a historic European Beech and created an early five-language collaborative website, exchanging trees with over 230 people; work is held in US and European collections.

  • Martin Arnold People

    Martin Arnold is an Austrian filmmaker and installation artist with a Ph. D. in Media Psychology from the University of Vienna; he has taught film production at institutions in North America and Europe. Since 1989 his work has shown at 147 international film festivals including Cannes, Rotterdam, Oberhousen and the New York Film Festival, and he has won 36 awards. His films have screened in museums including the Centre Georges Pompidou and MoMA; recent installations Deanimated-The Invisible Ghost, Forsaken and Dissociated were created with Digital Fusion, Combustion and After Effects and are showing at the Kunsthalle Wien.

  • Joe Gibbons People

    Joe Gibbons is an artist who received fellowships from funders including the New York Foundation for the Arts, Creative Capital and the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation. His work has been exhibited at institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art (NY), the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Centre Pompidou; it was selected for the Whitney Biennial in 1993, 2000 and 2002. His films have been broadcast in Spain, France and Germany and on PBS, and he has collaborated with Tony Oursler, Karen Finley, Tony Conrad and Emily Breer.

  • Peter Callas People

    Peter Callas has worked in film, video art and computer animation for over twenty years; his works are in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Kunstmuseum Bonn and the Australian National Gallery, Canberra. He held screenings at Kunstverein Cologne and MoMA New York, and completed residencies at PS1, New York (1989) and the Zentrum f¸r Kunst und Medientechnologie (ZKM), Karlsruhe. He won awards including First Prize, Bonn Videonale and Golden Switchblade Award (both 1994); dLux media arts presented a twenty-year retrospective of his video works in 1999 titled Intiialising History.
