Morgan Robinson

Morgan Robinson began his filmmaking career in the production department for Spike Lee's HE GOT GAME and SUMMER OF SAM. He attended the New York Film Academy and his narrative short CATABASIS won first prize at the Dominique Dunne Memorial Film Festival and a golden apple at the National Educational Media Network Film Festival. Morgan assisted filmmaker John Halpern shooting and producing his documentary film ANGER on location in Mexico, Colorado and Arizona.

Subsequently Morgan took on the project of co-directing and photographing BURNING IN THE SUN, and has been working on every aspect of this film since 2005. In addition he has produced the promotional video JI DUMA: BRING THEM WATER, as well as a narrative short, HANDS and a documentary short, THE DOMINO PROJECT. Recently Morgan produced and photographed John Halpern's latest documentary ONCE PARADISE on location in Kashmir, India. Morgan studied religion at Columbia University and speaks English, French, Spanish and Mandarin.

    Cambria Matlow is a founding filmmaker of Birdgirl Productions and debuted as a documentary feature director with BURNING IN THE SUN; she initiated production in 2005 after a colleague described a solar energy project in Mali and moved from Vermont to Brooklyn in spring 2006 to work full time. She directed and lensed short narrative films including CHAPSTICK and LET'S DO LUNCH and directed the experimental THE SACRED CLOWN about Che Guevara; she holds a B.A. with Honors from Columbia University and a Certificate in Documentary Film Production from Burlington College.

    Jud Yalkut (born 1938) is an experimental filmmaker, videographer, educator, painter, poet and art critic who helped bridge film and video and collaborated with Nam June Paik and Yayoi Kusama. He worked with the multi-media group USCO, made The Aquarian Rushes (1969) documenting Woodstock and completed a 1998 documentary on Pee Wee Russell. A Bronx native who studied at City College and McGill (where he befriended Leonard Cohen), he has lived in Dayton since 1973, taught experimental media at Wright State (1973–77) and received multiple Ohio Arts Council fellowships and an Ohio Humanities mini‑grant for Walking the Nickel, premiered April 14 at the Dayton Cultural Center; his films have been shown at the Guggenheim and a Whitney retrospective is scheduled.

  • Ken Jacobs People

    Ken Jacobs, born Brooklyn, NY in 1933, served two years in the Coast Guard and used the GI Bill to study painting and film; he studied painting with Hans Hofmann in 1956–57. He created and directed The Millennium Film Workshop, NYC (1966–68), founded the Dept. of Cinema at SUNY Binghamton in 1969 and held the Professor of Cinema (1974–2000), Distinguished Professor (2000) and Emeritus (2002) titles. His grants and awards include D.A.A.D. 1986; Maya Deren Award 1994; Guggenheim and NEA 1995; Rockefeller Foundation and numerous NYFA, NYSCA and festival prizes 1999–2010; Tom, Tom, The Piper's Son was named to the National Film Registry on Dec. 27, 2007.

  • Sanjna Singh and Pia Sawhney People

    Sanjna Singh, born in Mumbai, left at 17 for the US to pursue film; she graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 2000 and worked in Philadelphia's film industry. She and Bryn Mawr graduate Pia Sawhney founded Chai Break Films in 2003; their short premiered at Rotterdam and at the US Amnesty International Film Festival, and the duo received a NYSCA grant. She studied at ICP (New York), Paris VII (Jussieu) and Spéos Institute; Out of Status was supported by the Experimental Television Center Finishing Funds Program and is distributed by MediaRights.org.
