Born in 1983, Kai Beverly-Whittemore began posing for photographer Jock Sturges as a child. Body of Work (2010), which chronicles her transition from subject to filmmaker, is Beverly-Whittemore's first feature and was invited to the 2007 ifp Documentary Rough Cut Lab and ifp's 2008 Independent Film Week. She was recently awarded a place in the prestigious 2010 AFI Directing Workshop for Women. Her shorts, Elsa Over Head (2004) and Unfixed (2005) screened at DocFilms and the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, respectively. Her short screenplay, Half a Stop was awarded honorable mention from Killer Films/Massify.com in June 2009. In her spare time Kai may be found making miniature robots, playing with her nephew, or learning how to fiddle. She works as a freelance filmmaker and production designer from her home studio in Brooklyn.
