Greg Bowman

Greg Bowman received a BA from Cornell University College of Arts and Sciences, in Theater Arts, with advanced work in visual studies and music. He received a Masters degree from Renssalear Polytechnic Institute. He has worked as Assistant Access Coordinator for PEGASYS Access Television Studio, Ithaca, NY.

He served as Instructor in Computer Graphics at the New York State Summer School of the Arts at Ithaca College. He has been Producer/camera/editor for OffLine since 1990. OffLine is a cable access television series which showcases works by independent media producers and artists from around the country, in-depth feature interviews with artists in a wide variety of media, and special presentations. The show airs in over 30 cities around the country, from New York to California.

Aside from production and editing work, he has extensive experience in computer programming and web design. His personal work is in the area of music and audio, as well as digital video, interactive and new media forms. He has received recognition for his work from Media Ithaca Regrant (New York State Council on the Arts), the New York Foundation for the Arts' Special Opportunity Stipend, the Experimental Television Center's Presentation Funds, the Upstate Media Regrant (Visual Studies Workshop), the NYSCA Technical Assistance Program and the NYSCA Electronic Media and Film Program.

    Position paper to the New York State Council on the Arts arguing that Upstate New York’s media arts environment differs from New York City and requires targeted State support; it links regional isolation, access to camcorders and editing equipment, and public access cable with cultural heterogeneity and development. The paper proposes a dedicated NYSCA Upstate Media funding category with initiatives including entry-level publications, equipment redistribution, artists’ residencies, small-scale public access TV, organizational development, video rental libraries, micro-grants ($200–500), and encouragement of entry-level videomaking. It also recommends a one-person NYSCA satellite office in Buffalo, Rochester, Binghamton, or Syracuse and expanded Media Bureau travel guidelines to support intra-State conferences and visiting-artist programs.

  • Educational Communication Centers and the Television Arts Chronology

    Conference Educational Communication Centers and the Television Arts convened at SUNY Albany on November 21-22, 1974; coordinated by Gerald O'Grandy of the Center for Media Study at SUNY Buffalo. The stated purpose was to present developments in the video arts and related technology and to outline ways communication centers can serve developing media artists on their campuses and stimulate media activities in the arts and humanities. Presenters included O'Grady, Steina Vasulka (Center for Media Study, U of Buffalo), Tom DeWitt, Paul Kaufman (NCET at KQED), Fred Barzyk (Television Workshop at WGBH), David Loxton (TV Lab at WNET), Ed Emshwiller, Joel Chadabe and representatives from the Experimental Television Center and NYS Council on the Arts.
