Diane Bonder

Diane Bonder has been making lo-fi experimental film and video for 10 years. Shooting super-8 and 16mm in documentary, poetic and semi-narrative styles, she explores autobiographical content, addressing issues of identity, sexuality, addiction, memory, and loss. Her work has been screened internationally at museums, alternative cinemas, festivals and libraries, including The New Museum of Contemporary Art, The Whitney Museum, and The Brooklyn Museum of Art.

She is the recipient of several awards, including a Lyn Blumenthal Memorial Award, a Mid-Atlantic Media Fellowship, and Jurors Choice Award from the Black Maria Film and Video Festival. Bonder serves on the screening committee of the New Festival (The New York Lesbian and Gay Film and Video Festival).     Diane Teramana is a video artist whose work combines editing, special effects and performance; her video Bare Canvas, Blank Mind was praised by New Art Examiner and ACE Magazine for its poetic, dreamlike imagery. She presented a one-woman show at The Knitting Factory, NYC in 1993 (curator Stephen Vitiello), screened and served as a panelist for Internal Clatter at the Contemporary Arts Center in 1995, and completed six residencies at the Experimental Television Center in Owego, NY.     Diane Nerwen is a video artist and media arts educator whose works have screened internationally, including the Berlin Film Festival, the New York Video Festival, the Guggenheim Museum, NY and the Tate Modern, London; her videos are distributed by Video Data Bank, Chicago and Vtape, Toronto. Her practice has been supported by grants from the New York State Council on the Arts, New York Foundation for the Arts and Creative Capital Foundation, and she received a DAAD Artist in Residence Fellowship in Berlin in 2001; she was born in Montreal and lives in Brooklyn, NY.

  • Melinda Barlow People

    Melinda Barlow is Associate Professor at the University of Colorado at Boulder; she joined CU in 1996 after teaching at New York University, the School of Visual Arts, and Queens College, City University of New York. She edited Mary Lucier: Art and Performance (2000, Johns Hopkins University Press) and is a film and video historian specializing in contemporary independent women film and videomakers; her articles have appeared in journals including Camera Obscura and Art Journal. She received the Lyn Blumenthal Memorial Award and a CU Center for the Humanities and the Arts Fellowship in 2005; she founded the Leah Kelly Memorial Award and has a forthcoming book, Lost Objects of Desire (University of Minnesota Press).

  • Heather Bursch People

    Heather Bursch is an artist living and working in Brooklyn, New York; she received a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1996 and an MFA from California Institute of the Arts in 2008. In 2009 she attended Skowhegan and was awarded a MacDowell fellowship; she was a Whitney Independent Study Program fellow in 2011; her video and installation work explores specific cultural narratives in contemporary American media.

    Review of two 1984–85 exhibitions of feminist video: Revising Romance: New Feminist Video, organized and distributed by the American Federation of Arts and curated by Linda Podheiser and Bob Riley (ICA Boston, Sept 1–Dec 31, 1984; touring to Ohio State, Portland, and Cornell in 1985), and Difference: On Representation and Sexuality, videotapes curated by Jane Weinstock (New Museum, Dec 8, 1984–Feb 10, 1985; Renaissance Society and ICA London in 1985). The essay surveys numerous videotapes and artists (Condit, Yonemoto, Broughel, Antin, Godard, Birnbaum, Almy, Roster, among others), notes formats including super-8, three-channel black-and-white and television-produced half-hour tapes, and critiques curatorial emphases on Lacanian film theory and program balance while highlighting several standout works.

  • Sally Berger People

    Sally Berger is a video, film, and new media curator, lecturer, and writer who specializes in experimental video and non-fiction media; she is Assistant Curator in the Department of Film and Video at The Museum of Modern Art (1986 to the present) and works as an independent curator. She served as Executive Director of IFS from 1989-94; she is an international guest lecturer and programmer and writes on non-fiction practices, video art, and new media; she received an M.A. in Cinema Studies from New York University in 1999 and a B.A. from Fordham College at Lincoln Center in 1986.
